World is celebrating 800th Anniversary of Magna Carta. Magna Carta also called as The Great Charter of Liberties is one of the most famous documents in the world. It originally served as a peace treaty between king John of England and the rebel barons in 1215. Though it was a failure, it still provided a new framework for the relationship between the King and his subjects. Magna Carta established for the first time the principle that everybody, including the king, was subject to the law. Clause 39 of this agreement considered every man to be free, no free man shall be taken or imprisoned, or dispossessed or outlawed or exiled or in any way ruined, if innocent. A man would be punished only when found guilty through proper procedures of the land.
The charter became part of many communities in the 21st century even after being renewed each time by each monarch who came to the throne. It always remained a powerful and iconic document of the 19th and the 20th centuries.
